QUALIFICATIONS
AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF NECPA VERIFIERS
Qualifications:
NECPA
Verifiers receive endorsement by the NECPA Commission. To be
eligible for endorsement, an individual must possess at least:
1. a high school diploma and
2. three years experience directing an early childhood program
serving children ages birth through eight years.
While
the NECPA Commission prefers for Verifiers to hold college/university
degrees in Early Childhood Education, other acceptable qualifications
are:
•
A CCP Early Childhood Education Specialist or CDA Child Development
Associate credential,
•
At least three years’ experience as a teacher working with children
in a child care/early childhood education setting,
•
An Education Coordinator or equivalent with three years of experience,
and
•
An individual holding an Associate degree in early childhood
education, psychology, child development, home economics, nursing,
social work, or other related field from an accredited college
or university,
•
In addition to these educational qualifications, the Verifier
candidate must satisfactorily complete the NECPA Commission-sponsored
Verifier training, submit an application on the appropriate
forms, and obtain three letters of recommendation from persons
who are aware of the candidate’s personal and professional abilities.
Responsibilities:
1.
Verifiers are the individuals who collect all information from
programs seeking accreditation. Verifiers do not make the accreditation
decision but ascertain if the data reported in the NECPA instrument
is accurate.
2.
Verifiers are assigned to review programs by the Commission.
In most cases, Verifiers are required to work with an experienced
Verifier on a visit before verifying a program on his/her own.
3.
Verifiers observe all components of a program in order to collect
and verify all responses in the accreditation instrument.
4.
Verifiers review records and conduct interviews of staff and
the director to verify all responses in the accreditation instrument.
5.
Verifiers collect all parent and staff surveys and a copy of
the program’s license and submit these with the accreditation
instrument to the NECPA Commission for scoring.
6.
Verifiers are privy to sensitive and confidential information
about the programs they verify. Verifiers must agree to keep
any information they obtain through the verification process
strictly confidential.
7.
Verifiers must disclose prior to verifying any program any potential
conflict ofinterest or any relationship with the program that
could be construed as preventing a fair and impartial verification.
